Women's Counseling

Compassionate counseling for women in Hickory, NC, and surrounding communities who want support navigating emotional, relational, and life challenges.

You do not need to be in crisis before counseling can be useful.

You may be managing work, relationships, family responsibilities, transitions, expectations, and the constant mental load of everyday life while privately feeling anxious, discouraged, overwhelmed, self-critical, or disconnected from yourself.

Sometimes you know exactly what is bothering you. Other times, you know that the way you are living or feeling is no longer working.

I provide a confidential space where we can understand what is happening and identify practical ways to move forward. I am based in Hickory, North Carolina, and serve women in Hickory, Conover, Newton, Morganton, Statesville, Charlotte, and Lenoir.

Space for Your Experience

Understanding Women's Counseling

There is no single reason women seek counseling.

You may be struggling with anxiety or depression, navigating a difficult relationship, questioning what you want next, carrying painful experiences from the past, or simply noticing that your internal life feels much harder than it appears from the outside.

Many women become very skilled at functioning while ignoring what is happening internally.

Counseling provides a place to pay attention to those experiences and understand the patterns influencing your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and nervous system.

Space to Understand and Respond

How Counseling Can Help

Depending on your needs, counseling may provide:

  • A confidential place to talk openly
  • Support in recognizing recurring thought patterns
  • Practical coping and grounding skills
  • Help responding to self-criticism
  • Space to explore relationships and boundaries
  • Support during life transitions
  • Help becoming more present
  • Greater awareness of how past experiences affect current patterns
  • Strategies you can practice between sessions

I want our work to be useful in your real life, not limited to the hour we spend together.

Recognizing Your Experience

This Support May Be Helpful If…

  • You frequently feel anxious or overwhelmed.
  • You have been feeling low, disconnected, or stuck.
  • You are highly self-critical.
  • You spend much of your time overthinking.
  • Relationships feel difficult or draining.

  • You are navigating a major transition.
  • Past experiences continue to affect you.
  • You struggle with body image or shame.
  • You appear to be functioning well but do not feel well internally.
  • You want to understand yourself better and make meaningful changes.

Working Together

My Approach to Women's Counseling

My work is grounded in neuroscience and in the belief that the brain can change.

I often help clients notice what I call their “Chatter Girl,” the conditioned negative thought patterns that can take over our attention and convince us that every thought we have is true.

Instead of allowing that commentary to dictate your life, we can practice noticing it, interrupting old patterns, and returning your attention to the present.

I also introduce practices such as meditation and present-moment awareness because learning to focus attention intentionally can become an important part of emotional well-being.

I want counseling to feel collaborative, approachable, and human. There may be painful conversations, but there can also be humor, curiosity, and moments when you begin recognizing just how capable you are of using what you are learning.

Compassionate

You can talk openly without needing to perform, impress me, or explain yourself perfectly.

Personalized

Your life is not a template. We shape counseling around what matters to you.

Supportive

I want you to leave our work with ideas and skills you can actually use in your everyday life.

A Collaborative Process

What to Expect in Women's Counseling

Step 01

1. Begin With What Is Happening Now

We start with what brought you in and what you would like support with.

Step 02

2. Notice Patterns

We identify recurring thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationship patterns.

Step 03

3. Practice New Skills

We may work with attention, grounding, meditation, boundaries, self-talk, or other practical strategies.

Step 04

4. Apply What You Are Learning

You practice these skills between sessions and notice what begins to change. You do not need to know exactly what to say when you arrive. We can figure that out together.
